B’ism Allah… Alhamdulillah, from the teachings of Mawlana Shaykh Nurjan Mirahmadi (QS), backbiting is indeed a grave sin in Islam. It is mentioned in the Hadith that backbiting is the only thing that can take away all your hasanat (goodness). When a person engages in backbiting, it extinguishes their light and good deeds. This means that all the good deeds and blessings they have accumulated can be lost due to the act of backbiting.

The consequences of backbiting are severe because it not only diminishes one’s own good deeds but also causes harm to the person being backbitten. In Islam, backbiting is considered more heinous than fornication, and its repentance is not accepted until the victim forgives the backbiter. This shows the severity of the sin and its impact on one’s spiritual state.

Furthermore, it is mentioned that shaitan (satan) encourages backbiting to bankrupt people of their good deeds. When a person engages in backbiting, their good deeds are transferred to the person they are speaking ill of, leaving them spiritually bankrupt.

Therefore, it is crucial for a believer to be mindful of their words and actions, especially when it comes to speaking about others. The teachings emphasize the importance of guarding one’s tongue and refraining from engaging in backbiting, as it has detrimental effects on one’s spiritual state and relationship with Allah.
