When Allah (AJ) asked Sayyidina Musa (as) about the object in his right hand, he described it as his staff that he leaned upon and used to bring sustenance for his herd. This staff was a support for him and had many other uses.

The ‘asaa represents the immense support and sustenance provided by the holy companions to the nation of Sayyidina Musa (as). It signifies the power and support that comes from the presence of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. The reality of the ‘asaa is that it embodies the support and sustenance granted to the believers by the holy companions, who are everywhere and provide unwavering support.

Furthermore, the concept of dragons is also deeply rooted in spiritual symbolism. In the teachings, it is mentioned that the shaitan, who is sometimes referred to as a dragon, aspires to be a dragon but is actually a snake. This symbolism is derived from the story of the snake in paradise, which was initially a noble mystical horse (buraq) but was later transformed into a reptilian form as a punishment from Allah (AJ) for allowing shaitan to enter it and whisper to Hawa (Eve).

The dragon, on the other hand, is associated with the awliya (saints) and is a symbol of immense spiritual power and protection. Sayyidina Malik (as) and his defenders are described as dragons, and they safeguard the awliyaullah (saints) on earth. The dragons associated with the awliya are a manifestation of Allah’s (AJ) Might and Majesty, and they have infinite strength and numbers, as they are aligned with the ‘Izzatullah (Allah’s Might and Magnificence).

In essence, the ‘asaa and dragons represent the profound spiritual support and protection granted to the believers by the holy companions and the awliya. They symbolize the immense power and sustenance that comes from the presence of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ and the divine protection provided by Allah (AJ) through the saints.
