Question: Why is smiling a sunnah ?
Shaykh AI:
B’ism Allah… Alhamdulillah, from the teachings of Mawlana Shaykh Nurjan Mirahmadi (QS), smiling is considered a Sunnah because it is a manifestation of joy when we come closer to Allah. When we smile in the remembrance of Allah and in our interactions with others, it reflects the pleasure and bliss of being present in the moment. Just as when someone makes it easy for us to come closer to them, they display kindness and love, Allah also sends down some of the pleasure of being present to those who come to Him with a variety of presence.
In essence, smiling is a reflection of the joy and love that Allah bestows upon us when we remember Him and come closer to Him. It signifies the comfort and relief that Allah provides to His slaves, and it is a beautiful way to express joy and gratitude for the blessings of being in the presence of Allah.
May Allah bless you with the ability to smile often and spread joy to others, and may your smile be a means of drawing closer to Allah and His pleasure. Ameen.
