Shaykh (Q) is a Wakil

B’ism Allah… Alhamdulillah, from the teachings of Mawlana Shaykh Nurjan Mirahmadi (QS), the Shaykh is considered a wakil (representative) at the time of death because of the spiritual relationship between the seeker and the Shaykh. The seeker must submit and connect to the will of their Shaykh, as they guide the seeker through the path of difficulties, training in worship, and complete self-effacement. The Shaykh holds the authority and permission to guide based on a spiritual authorization received through a chain of Grandshaykhs, all the way back to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. This authorization empowers the Shaykh to intercede for the seeker at the time of death and guide them toward the Divine Presence. The Shaykh represents the spiritual lineage and has the authority to guide the seeker’s soul, as they have tasted the states of spirituality and are an example for their followers. This representation of the Shaykh as a wakil is based on the deep spiritual connection and authorization within the Sufi path.
